I LIKE computers!
I use Linux, the fabulous and unix-lookalike operating system, at home and at work. I have had 11 years experience with it now (since August '95, same day as Windows 95 came out) along side Windows 95 and I have to say that it certainly beats the Microsoft product in most areas. I guess the most amazing thing about it is that it has never once in that time period crashed on me. Individual programs sometimes fail but they never, ever bring the whole system to its knees. I can't say that about Microsoft products. Whack your mouse button here for a complete description. Another really amazing thing about this operating system is the amount of free, high quality software that can be had for it.
An image of my desktop:
This page is being served by a Pentium 4, 1.8 GHz, 1 Gig memory, 180 Gig drive
space (filling fast of course!) running Linux 2.6.14 using the
Apache web server. X11 4.10 is used as the windowing environment with a
full complement of programs designed to take advantage of X11's power.
Samba 1.9.16 is used to interface seamlessly with departmental machines
running Windows 98 to Windows XP (ugh! What a ghastly operating system!! How do people stand it?).
Note:
If you firmly believe that Linux is a 'toy' operating system
that only geeks and hackers would consider useful check this
and this and this
out!
If you are curious or nervous about switching to Linux look here

for some myths and realities about Linux.
I also use an SGI O2 at work. 200 MHz MIPS 5000 cpu with wicked-fast graphics.
Runs a rockin' version of Quake too!
