The Prairie Rail Workshop model railroad club has been around since 1981, and was originally organized as an informal group with a common interest in model railroading. We are located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, near the north edge of the Great Plains of North America.
Our mandate has traditionally been to have fun and learn from each other. Our new mission statement is to build, maintain, and operate a portable model railroad layout, both for our enjoyment and for public display. We meet on the first and third Monday of every month between September and May in the basement of Saskatoon's Albert Community Centre. Meetings usually involve working on or operating our portable layout, although we have held the occasional clinic on a particular aspect of the hobby or just sat around and talked about trains. In recent years we have organized an annual layout tour in May, where some of the local modelers volunteer to show off their pikes.
